The Haute Couture fashion week was by far more splendid than Men’s Fashion Week. The clothing was magical. Everywhere you looked there was someone dressed to their best in designer fashion. Raised in a small town, I was never exposed to designer wardrobe or fashion in general. I kind of created my own look, which was sometimes frightening as I look back now. Homemade jeans with safety pins and lace, all pink jumpsuit, even once wore a garter belt that held up my hand-sewn bell-bottom leg warmers. When I got to high school I found my rhythm: “extreme” skinny jeans, ballet flats, and a thin, red silk trench. Little did I know that this would become popular as casual wear here in Paris almost 7 years later. Well, I’ve caught the fashion bug. I now crave clothing that will express my creativity and make me feel dazzling. I know that we do not need material items to become more beautiful or acceptable but sometimes clothing can be an extension of yourself. It is a way to say yeah, I like this. More so it screams I love this. The difference is when you do it to please yourself not to fit-in or conform. If it feels you with a sense of happiness and comfort then I do not think it is wrong or superficial.
